Walking in the Tatra Mountains

Walking in the Tatra Mountains

Poland - 2023

One of the best kept mountain ranges I have walked. Very clear signage and absolutely no litter, the Polish really look after this national park. Situated on the border between Slovakia and Poland the mountains rise to just over 2500m and provide an abundance of lakes and ridges. We stayed in the well run and highly organised mountain refugios which provide good home cooking, a glass of wine and comfortable beds where you only had to bring a sleeping bag liner. There are walks for everyone, ranging from challenging to straightforward. On one day we walked on the border ridge, stepping either side of the boundary markers. We never saw a bear but they are occasionally reported there.
