This was a trip I undertook alone as a recce for an upcoming walking and art trip. January can be very cold and wet in Tuscany. Keeping largely to the Via Francesca pilgrimage route I walked from Pisa to Siena over the course of a week staying in pretty hilltop villages such as Monteriggioni and Certaldo. No matter the time of year the rolling hills, poplar trees and abundance of villas provide memorable views
