The Tsum Valley

The Tsum Valley

19 Days

CHALLENGING

The Tsum Valley is four days walking distance from the nearest road, and one of the most remote areas in the Western Himalayas of Nepal. We walked past the valley last year on our way to Manaslu and I knew I would have to return to explore it.  It is off the beaten track and a respected Buddhist cultural heritage area, attracting several pilgrims. The valley provides an excellent habitat for wild animals, particularly blue sheep, musk deer, Himalayan that, and snow leopard, with approximately 2,000 species of plants (50 medicinal plants), 110 species of birds, and 33 species of mammals. A diverse natural environment, it hosts 11 different types of forests.  The trek reaches a maximum height of 4,500m so it does not have quite the same altitude issues as the 3 treks above, although acclimatisation is still required.  It is also less strenuous and demanding.
