Via Ferrata in the Dolomites

Via Ferrata in the Dolomites

17-20 June 2024

MODERATE TO CHALLENGING DEPENDING UPON THE ROUTE

The Dolomites are widely regarded as among the most stunning landscapes in Europe. Their beauty derives from a variety of pinnacles, spires and towers, contrasted with ledges and plateaus, which rise from the gentle green and wooded foothills. During WW1 the Italian Alpine troops used via ferrata,  metal cables stapled to the rock face, to quickly gain access to their gun positions high in the Dolomite cliffs. Nowadays, using a via Ferrata set, climbers can secure themselves to the cable, limiting any fall, enabling otherwise dangerous routes to be undertaken safely without unprotected scrambling and climbing or the need for climbing equipment such as ropes. Cortina D’Ampezzo is central to many of the routes and where the trip will be based.
