Walking the Ghandruk Trail in Nepal

SIMPLE
This is a gentle trek through the foothills and villages in the Nepalese Himalaya, with stunning views of some of the county’s classic mountains (Annapurna, Machhapuchhre and Himchuli), hot springs and lots of hillside villages. We will be staying in western standard tea houses to help make the trip comfortable and walking between 2 to 4 hours each day. The trip culminates in a guided tour of Kathmandu.

Itinerary

Arrival at Kathmandu International Airport. Overnight in Kathmandu hotel. I will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel in central Kathmandu. In the evening we will eat in a restaurant in the Thamel area and you will get to meet the rest of the group and our guide.

Fly to Pokhara (915m) by internal flight. Overnight in Pokhara hotel. After breakfast, we will leave the hotel and drive to Kathmandu airport and take our flight to Pokhara. Flight timings to be confirmed. If we arrive in good time we will show you around the area, in particular, Davis falls and Phewa Lake.

Drive to Nayapul, trek to Ghandruk (1950m). Overnight in Ghandruk Guest House. After breakfast we will drive Kimche village, near Nayapul and then walk to Gandruk, via Kimche village. It will take between 90 minutes to 2 hours of walking to reach Ghandruk on a quite steep path. Here you will get the first glimpse of the sacred and unclimbed mountain of Machhapuchhre, and also Himchuli & Annapurna South.

Trek to Jhinudada (1547m). Overnight in tea house. From Ghandruk Village we will walk, via a new bridge, to Jhinu Danda. This will take between 3 to 4 hours as we pass along the swirling Modi Khola river. There are natural hot springs in the village where we can have a soak.

Overnight in tea house. On route we will have views of waterfalls, Annapurna South, Himchuli and other mountains. The walk, which can be steep on occasions, continues to follow the Modi Khola and climbs for the final hour until we reach to Tollkha Village. The walk will take around 4 hours.

Overnight in tea house. Early risers can enjoy the view of sunrise over Annapurna South. A flat trail takes us out of Tolkha for about an hour before rising to reach Verikgarka. Then the trail follows through forest before ascending to Deurali, from where you can see valley of Pokhara. Beyond Deurali the trail gradually descends to Dhampus via Pothana.

Trek to Phedi, then drive to Pokhara. Overnight at Pokhara hotel. This morning provides further notable views of the Annapurnas as we descend through pretty villages to Dhampus Phedi. Once here we are driven by jeep to Pokhara (about 30 minutes}.

Drive to Kathmandu by jeep. Overnight in Kathmandu hotel. This should take us about 6 hours.

Kathmandu valley tour. Overnight in Kathmandu hotel. We will visit many cultural heritage sites, which includes Pashupatinath, Swyambhunath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Bouddhanath stupa and many more. There will also be plenty of time for shopping.

Return to Kathmandu International airport. By internal flight. Timings to be confirmed.
